I've been scared to say anything.
But, it's too good of news to not share.
We haven't used Reese's g-tube once in a week.
She's been drinking thickened fluids quite well.
Over the last few months, she's been
drinking more and more fluids without any problems,
as long as it's thickened fluids...
thin fluids are still not safe for her,
as the thinner the fluid, the more likely she is to aspirate.
Nonetheless,
the fact that her g-tube cabinet
is getting a little rusty and dusty from lack of use
is very exciting for our little family!
Wowzers! So jealous!
ReplyDeleteWe're getting closer too. And same as you, I've been hesitant to mention it.
The way I figure it, we have to make it through a major sickness without needing a bolus of water and pedialite through the tube before I will consider removing it. I'd rather tough it out for another winter than have him in the ER for IV fluids multiple times this winter.
Wahoo, Reese! You're rockin' it. And WTG, Momma... I KNOW how difficult the journey can be with a tube. Micah has had his since birth. But he's now eating blended table food (a little) at each meal. And he'll drink 6oz of formula or smoothie at each meal. But he's not interested in water yet.
HOORAY!!! I know the feeling of hesitation to celebrate for fear of jinxing it, but I also know how exciting it is to hit that kind of milestone!! Congratulations! :o)
